Good day!!! Hope you have been doing well in my absence.
So as I’m sure you know, unless you have been sleeping under a rock or in some third world country with no tv or electricity, Nike and Colin Kaepernick have been in the news lately and it is controversial!
If you are a football fan, like myself, (GO GIANTS!!! LOL), then you must remember 2016, which is when all of the controversy began. At that time, Kaep, (as he is called), decided that instead of standing for
the national anthem, as is the tradition at the beginning of football games, he would instead take a knee. He did so in protest of the fact that so many black men were being killed by police. He did it because he did not want to show pride in a country that, even with as many strides as we’ve made, still
oppresses people of color. His silent, peaceful protest caused such an uproar in the football world that when he opted out of his final season contract with the San Francisco 49ers at the end of 2016, no other team would pick him up. He was, in effect, blackballed from the National Football League.
Well, recently Nike unveiled their most recent ad campaign, which features Colin Kaepernick and the caption, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything”. So two years after all the drama
and controversy started, Colin Kaepernick is finally receiving his recompense.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When all of this started, I’m sure Kaep had no idea that he would be sacrificing his football career, something he loved so much. Or maybe he did, but he chose to do it anyway because the bigger picture was much more important to him. I don’t know. But as things progressed and he found himself unemployed, black listed and not doing the thing he loved, there must have been moments when he questioned the wisdom of what he had done.
So my question to you is, in pursuit of your passion and purpose, are you willing to sacrifice? There will be times during your journey when you will wonder if you are on the right path. Things will not always go as expected and you will question your abilities, your thought process, your destiny. You may begin
to wonder if you are really following God’s plan for you or if you are just doing your own thing. There will be times when you may need to sacrifice your time, your comfort, money, security and a myriad of
other things in order to reach your final destination, and fulfill your God-given purpose. Are you willing to put yourself in a position where you feel uncomfortable? Are you willing to sacrifice in the short term
so that you can reach your goals and destiny in the long term? That could mean losing some money. It could mean staying up late nights and getting up earlier than normal to get things done. It could mean,
stepping out of your comfort zone into something totally new and different. It could mean confronting some demons that you have been suppressing so that you can heal and move forward in your life. It could mean eliminating certain people or things from your life.
The pursuit of passion and purpose is rarely a smooth or easy course. More often you will hit bumps and turns that you weren’t anticipating and the road will be rocky. Will you stay the course like Colin
Kaepernick did or will you give up when things get hard? It is up to you to get to the place you need to be in order to reach your goals. “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Do you
believe in yourself and your God-given gifts and destiny? Will you sacrifice in order to make it?? The choice is yours…….
